doing the evaporator! Last questions

I am very happy I didnt do the evaporator job yet.. There were some rainy days.

Because just now the heater core gave me a subtle yet very clear hint it demanded attention/replacement too.
After pushing the gas a bit, the car suddenly heavely smelled like coolant.
The floor at the passenger side got wet and the vents began smoking a bit later.
I topped of the coolant and drove home. maybe 2km.
It felt and smelled quite hot when I opened the hood, but the gauge never went up further than normal.
So I guess no problems.

I ordered a nissens heater core and will get the 2 rubber o rings...

So I got the dash out, ready to take the heater box out.
But I cant seem to get the ac lines loose.

I got the tools. 5/8 and 3/4 seem to be the right sizes.
It goes around the line well, you squeeze it in the round part.
Then I can take the line apart a bit, till I see the flared bit of the tube.
But it just wont go any further.
What am I doing wrong here?

Forget it. persistence prevailed.
I just needed someone to pull the other side too.

Got it all out through the cable spaghetti.
The original heater core was still in the car

Didnt get the evaporator out yet, because diner..

Evaporator was original too. It both had a '95 date.
Looked like crap!

And there was water in the hole for the fan..

Keep it up!

Try to find a cabin filter assembly from a 1998 to 2000 model V70/S70. It will protect your new evaporator by preventing the entrance of all that crud.

I have 2 more of those, A red one and a white one. They constantly hang around me when I am at the car.
Sometimes while doing a quick testdrive, a cat will still be sleeping on the back seat.

Had to wait till 19:00 today for the postman to deliver my heater core. So I cleaned the air box. The old foam became sort of a brown sticky snot. Quite disgusting. Didnt have any foam and couldnt really find a store wich sold it.
Even the rubber between the heater core box was flat hard and pushed out.
So I replaced it all with the strips you put on windows/doors against the draft.
Quite good stuff. It looks good and will probably seal well.
Anything better than the snot..

Anyway. The airbox is back in the car again. Was easier than getting it out..

Only I seem to have lost something. It cant be far, but I forgot what it was. Or something was even there.

It goes in the hole on the green connecter.

Has to be a temperature sensor for the incoming air. I don't remember,her that on my 99.

Found it. It rolled under the car.

I Cant seem to find any 3w dashboard light at the typical stores. Which is the larger bulb for the fuel, temp gauge
They all sell the 5w instead..
Is it a problem if I use 5w instead of 3w?

Dash, fan and steering wheel and covers are back in. again a lot easier then getting it out.
But this time I left the top off.
Anyone doing this, I would recommend taking the top off before taking the dash out.
It saves a lot of weight, and it will make it a lot easier to move around.
Also without the top, you can actually see all the cables and mounting posts. Wich is a big plus.

Now I just have to wait for a proper bulb. So I can finish the dash and airbag. Then I can start the car and see if there is no leakage at the heater core.
Then finish the rest.
