Thanks for all the replies. I finished the install and have a question about the Nissen radiator. The drain cock is a simple finger twist mechanism. Is it meant to be replaced with something that can be torqued down? I afraid it will just work itself loose at some point.
Here are some observations:
- The Nissen radiator I purchased from FCP came from Texas and well packaged - no issues
- The radiator inlet and outlet ports did not have metal collars inside the plastic fittings, as the Volvo OE one did. Need to be very careful tightening the clamps
- The overflow port opening is more narrow that the Volvo OE - I don't think this will make much of a difference
- The install on my NA MT was a breeze. I could do most everything from the top, including removing and replacing the radiator. I did not need to raise the car off the ground!
- The radiator's AT fittings do not interfere with anything and I just left them alone with their red plugs still installed
That's all - thanks again!

Well done! The OE radiators are the only ones I have seen with the metal insert. The last radiator (Nissens) I bought last year had a thicker top outlet than the OE and was no problem to tighten down. I always recommend a new top hose but if you don't get a leak with a good old one then ok. I had a bad experience with an OE one that the Nissens replaced where the metal liner managed to slide out into the upper hose! It then fractured right where it had extended to on the inner end.
The older Nissens I bought had a poor top hose connection which was almost like 2 parts that didn't quite align. There was a mold ride which ran lengthways along the top outlet and it was flimsy and hard to get the top hose tight without leaks. Newer version seems much better made.
