Re: V70 seatbelt and seat questions?

I know the one in the FWD V70 base is the correct one as I installed it as the original was shredded. It was also bought from a Volvo specialist used parts company I have used for years called Chapman Motors Inc on Vancouver Island in Canada.

They also confirmed the part number as correct. I have not checked the 'R' belt part number physically, but will get around to it once the base model has gone and I have more time. I might keep an eye out for a spare when at PnP sale this weekend. I think they are about $10 CDN on sale.

The main differences I was led to believe (not sure if this is correct) but is due to the change in electrical control system changes in the 99-00 years from 98. That may explain the chassis number break.

The hardware definitely changed in 1999. We have a quick release tab on the front belts that release it from the seat on the outboard side which makes seat removal a snap.

2000 S70 GLT SE I need a new driver side seat belt (the pyro tensioner is defective). Every part listing I see says the part is for vehicles with no passenger side airbag - mine has one. Anybody know the correct part number? Also, can I replace just the belt in these units (swap over from another assembly)?

Not sure why you would not just swap the whole unit over? It is simple to do and if the pyro is bad you don't want to play with that!

If you get a replacement, it is fairly easy to swap. Remove the B pillar cover, the belt has a clip to depress on the seat end to remove it and 2 bolts on the pillar if I recall and a wiring connector.

Although it is possible, I don't think I have ever seen a P80 without a passenger airbag.

Funnily enough this may have answered my original question on this thread. I have never seen the extra long seatbelt option. That may explain the differences I was finding at the time but this was not listed back then.

There's a 2000 V70 in the junk yard that has half the belt cut off and tied around the steering wheel. Could probably get real cheap. That site you sent has the same note for the driver seat belt: 9194168 For Vehicles without airbag on the Passenger Side. Why the passenger side has anything to do with it is beyond me. Where it says what car it fits it lists FC 21 and FC 22. What does this refer to?

I believe that is to do with market codes. I think I have a 99- seatbelt so I will check if it still has the part number on it. Easy enough to check if there is a passenger airbag. Pull the 7? x T25 Torx screws out the glove box liner and you can see the airbag just above the opening.
Again, no idea why they even have that statement. Over the years I have seen many confusing and wrong info on these websites.

Looking at the EBay there are many wrong descriptions as seatbelts changed from mechanical firing to electrical in 99 where they are saying (strangely only RH front seatbelts) fit 98-00??

As to swapping the belt over, I'll take a quick look and see if it can be done. Personally it is one of the few things I don't like playing with.

I know I have the passenger air bag. I should pull the pillar cover and see if I can see a part number. Hate doing it because it always feels like something's going to break. Don't do anythng risky. Another one will come along that's intact - not even sure that one hasn't fired yet or is otherwise functional. Anyway to tell short of plugging it in?

I found my seatbelt, but unfortunately when I cleaned it I must have wiped the part number off the label. In fact, looking at it now, I think it might actually be bad. Even though it came from a non-accident damaged vehicle it will not release the belt from the fully retracted position which makes me think it may be locked out. Not sure how to check that.

Sorry to let you down on the part number.

AS to your question on if it can be disassembled to swap a belt over from another, it would be very difficult and I would recommend against it. Here are a few pictures to show why:

Swaged connections (1)

You can see in the pictures that along with the rivets it is also swaged/peened on the frame holding the belt and firing connection.

Anyone know how to tell if the belt has been activated? Other than this won't un-furl, there is no obvious (to me) signs. Does the wire on the side to the bottom tighten when activated and should it be loose?

They do exist. There was a member on here a few years ago who had a middle eastern p80 and I remeber the southern US p80 owners were in envy for a dash without an oddly misshaped passenger airbag cover.

Btw., I,ve never seen any misshaped aitbag vovers in central or northern Europe. UV and extreme heat are obviously really bad for the interior of cars.
