I must chime in too.
Jammed, crooked calipers have dry, corroded or even rusty glide pins.
How can lubing them hurt?
Don't they live in a sheltered environment such that the "accumulated grit" argument doesn't apply?

Yup, they got a film of lube when fitted. Whichever way you look at it they are still in good shape and are 12+ years old. Mind you car has only done around 90,000 miles.

The sliding pins will if anything wear more the less the car is driven since they usually don't break by wearing out but by getting stuck
