I must chime in too.
Jammed, crooked calipers have dry, corroded or even rusty glide pins.
How can lubing them hurt?
Don't they live in a sheltered environment such that the "accumulated grit" argument doesn't apply?

Yup, they got a film of lube when fitted. Whichever way you look at it they are still in good shape and are 12+ years old. Mind you car has only done around 90,000 miles.
