You don't burn the oil. You heat it to the smoke point which is below the the Flash point ( Flames ). It not much different or harder then cooking with oil.
If your SWMBO tell you don't play with the stove ... perhaps you better stick with the Sage.

Burning oil with battery heating is a pretty easy way to start a fire.

I bought this one, just needs to have a pvc pipe fixed to the side to attach a hose for the vacuum fitting. Many vids on youtube on others who have built one. Cheap and functional.
