TLDR1: Once everything timed can I* loosen the CAM sprockets w/timing belt still on to align the CAMs to fit into the CAM lock?
TLDR2: Once timed could I remove the timing belt to align the CAM tool?
TLDR3: Once timed could I leave everything buttoned up and install the CAM tool upside down if I can get it to align that way?
Hand-wringing as follows:
Got it timed up, accessory belt off, now wrestling with the CAM lock tool. After you secure the locking tool arms to the CAMs, the locking tool is supposed to align with the threaded locking bolt center hole on the lower bar - mine only aligns with the threaded hole up. To make this work Id need to get a longer center locking bolt and add a nut. Guess Im worried it wont be as strong somehow or might move or for whatever reason means the cams wont be factory aligned to take the torque of removing camshaft adjusting hub.
Abscate said so long as the crank is timed, I can move the CAMs so answering my own question TLDR 1 & 2 should be ok. Constructive input appreciated
PS Last time I did this job on my 04 V70 2.5T I lined up locking tool with a little persuasion.
thnx all
[*]'can I' meaning can I w/out doing harm...
