You mean this port? It's an open hole into the bulk volume of the sump.

Where is the oil trap hole in the block, the lower one, relative to that passageway in the picture above - or is it not connected?

Ah, I see. The [round port that couples to bottom of the plastic baffle box] connects to [the square port in the sealing surface of the oil pan] as part of [a tube that terminates in that round port after the bend in the sump]. It's a straw from the bottom of the baffle box to the liquid volume of the sump, if you've got enough oil. The big port on the baffle box goes to the volume under cylinder 3 in the block, ie the ullage volume of the oil "tank" formed by the block/sump assembly.

It is connected, as I described.

See the lower trap hole, at cylinder 2? Go straight down to where I put a square (below), that's where the square top of the sump passageway fits.

I am such a f* moron. I have been trying to envision where the oil box port connects to the oil sump for about 2 years now, finally, I get it.
