Re: Car dies while driving

Thank you- would the car sound like it is getting no compression? And would the car just die suddenly and not restart? Sorry, but I am a woman who learned the little bit I know from my ex, so I am just trying to figure it out best I can without spending a lot of money.

Thank you again very much appreciated.

One more thing and I am not sure this has anything to do with the current problem, but sometimes my alternator & bulb failure warning lights come on when I press on the break. But as soon as I let off the break the lights go off. However, it only does it sometimes. Sorry as I am sitting here I keep thinking about it and thought I should include everything I can b/c maybe it's relevant.

Yes it could. A slipped timing belt would knock the engine out of synchronisation. Valves open at the wrong time.

Take the plastic cover off the top of the engine. The timing belt is at the front under the cover. Press down on the timing belt, it should not move then about 1/4 inch.

Did you try the starting fluid as earlier suggested? It is more likely a fuel delivery issue than a timing belt issue. If car is back firing, hold peddle to floor while starting and rev engine up a bit if the car starts to clear engine of excess fuel.

Alternator issue is not related to issue of getting a car started with a charged battery.

Just to be clear, if the car doesn’t start at all without starting fluid and itstarts for a few seconds and then dies when using starting fluid, that means that you have a fuel delivery problem.

Three second shot of starting fluid and no more, into the air intake hose , one Mississippi two Mississippi three Mississippi stop spraying and crank the engine over . Too much can blow it sky high.
