Re: 2001 V70XC - Rear shock bushing separating
Rear Lesjofors for regular shocks do sag down quickly. Genuine Volvo does that too.

Would Lesjofors hold better over Volvo OE shocks? What combination works best?

I put the Lesjoförs HD springs in the rear of 2 of our XC70’s. Very noticeable difference. Rear rides about 1 finger width taller (if you put your fist between the tire & fender arch). Definitely a handling improvement. Slightly stiffer but honestly the saggy & plush stock rears are disappointing in comparison.
For my 286k mile IPD stage 1 XC70, I bought the Nivomat fitment springs a couple months ago in prep for doing VTL’s recommended rear suspension upgrade. Still coaxing myself to the edge of the cliff for the self leveling shock purchase. Then the baby Russian lift kit. The last 2 things will have to wait a little while. Been chasing a wandering boost issue & should have it solved early next week w/new ETM install.
Anyhow, the Lesjoförs HD springs are a really great improvement & very affordable. I’m using them with my original rear shocks. I will leave them be until I buy the Nivomat rear shocks.

Starting to collect parts and tools for the rear suspension service. Suplex coil spring was recommended for its quality over Lesjofors.

Rear wheels are off, and ratchet strap is installed keeping the control arm in place before loosening the bolts.- Pete - wrote: ↑14 Apr 2020, 06:59
The only bolt you need to remove from the top to free the strut from the car is the one with the “half moon” shaped washer. The other 2 large bolts you remove from underneath. Once the strut is out & on the bench, get your spring compressors positioned & tighten them down until the top hat is free from tension. Then and only then can you remove the center top hat nut to replace the shock.
Does the rear strut assembly mounting on 2001 V70XC has the top bolt with the "half moon" shaped washer. I am not seeing any from the cargo area -- with third row-seat.

It should have it. You need to remove the “front” lift-up panel/third row seat back, then remove carpeting/noise damping insulation underneath. Then you should see some (2) gray circular foam pieces on the L & R. Pull those off and underneath you should be able to catch a glimpse of the half-moon washer & fastener heads.

Found it -- nicely hidden under the layers with Volvo quality. It has never been exposed.- Pete - wrote: ↑22 May 2020, 07:24 It should have it.
