Your 1998 does not need dash removal. Take out the glovebox and then remove the plastic panel under the glovebox. Check the vent damper closest to you, the plastic may be broken.

The reset procedures are the same as the 850, quite involved, and all of the vents must work before initiating reset. You will need to make a code reader.

I have a similar situation. I started the ECC damper motors recalibration through VIDA on 2 different units and in both it didn't finish the process, making the unit keep flashing the ac green light and disabling the air distribution and temp control on both sides.
Before starting calibration the air distribution worked perfectly and also the left temp regulation, but the right side was blowing cool air instead of warm/hot.
There were no ECC dtc or faults so my guess was to just re calibrate dumper motors.
There should be a way to hard reset the ecc unit to get it back to defaults and not keep starting the recalibration process (and getting stuck on it) everytime you run the car.
Anyone would assist with this?

I am too looking ways to get hands on ECC unit and looking forward to tinkering its memory how to reset it if possible after entering to calibration.
