I agree, but can he just swap the block over and use the head from his original assuming it is good? Again this is not as easy as a straight swap form a 98 or earlier car. I'm thinking that as he has been looking for a year for a motor maybe this may be his best way forward.
Mind you, it may be worth contacting rspi ( aka Robert Spinner of video fame). It is a fair ways, but he in in Albequrque in NM isn't he? He might be able to help source a suitable engine or suggest where to try?
