The parts should have part numbers on them. If the ETM is tried and nothing happens when the key is switched on, then it is either the wrong one or is totally dead. No harm done. Similarly the MAF has a part number.
The Denso MAF if it came from a 99-00 should be correct if your car is a 99 or 00.
The differences between a 99 and 00 S70 NA is the 99 had a 4 speed auto and the 00 a 5 speed auto. Obviously if you have a stick shift then that is a bridge to cross when you get there. Part number checking is the way forward. The ETM should have a label on it and there should be a date code on there. If it has a white label it and a 98-around 00 it is an original non-repaired unit. A yellow label, it is a rebuilt unit and basically the same as the original. In around 2013 the label went back to white and those are sought after as they have the contactless controls on the throttle flap which is basically what Xemodex do.

The green donor car is an auto and mine is a stick… didn’t realize that would play a part in throttle control but I suppose that makes sense… maybe…
Okay, it doesn’t make sense to me but I’ll take your word that the difference matters. Will be yanking the donor out because why not.
EDIT: Shop was closed, so Monday or Tuesday it is.

I don't believe I said anything about manual and auto trans. I mentioned 4 or 5 speed AUTO trans. NA engines had a 4 speed auto in 99 and got a 5 speed auto in 00. I don't believe there should be any issue swapping either year.

No damage if the software doesn’t match on the ETM. It might high idle or not start but no harm done

Adding a new entry to this threat in relation to the ETM. Put in a used one (yellow sticker) to replace the one in my car (white sticker, original part, on a car with 350k miles... and it still moved and engaged!) Put it in to see if it would work, and it did. Then started the car, and it started. Idles around 900 to 1000, but is that really considered high? It's so responsive now, at least when revving, and doesn't die if I stomp on the gas too much. Is that problem, finally, solved?
Now I have to get the correct sized wheel bearings for the Volvo, and the clips because I broke one and lost the other... either that, or a whole bushing kit, which I did order but plan on returning if I can get the parts on Monday for cheaper.
