S80 1G 6Cyl Auto Transmission Fluid & Filter Change How-To

There is some fluid leaking from the left boot. One mechanic said the seal needs replaced. Is this accurate and common on these type cars. Stacy

If I wanted to change fluid more then one time, a. Should I drive it just a couple miles between ,and can I use non synthetic fluid to save money until the last fluid change. Thank you

If you are that worried about getting the old fluid out than spend the couple of hundred dollars at Volvo for a fluid exchange otherwise there's write ups here on pulling a cooler line and run a "at home" exchange.

My experience with my 2004 S80 has been the Volvo brand Detron 3 works best. Walmart brand Dextron 3 caused harsh upshifts, Synthetic fluid covering Dextron 3 caused soft upshifts and late harsh downshifts. Volvo Dextron 3 brought everything back to normal. That's been my experience with my 4T65EV-GT in my 2004 S80 T6. June

No it's not necessary to change it several times. Please look at my recent transmission filter change, flush and Transgo Shift Kit installation.
