Before I found this thread I got inspired by another regarding same problem in an XC90, which I think is a bit easier to manage. Now that I fixed my S60 (2002) rear left door, I came back to comment and found this more relevant thread.
As an alternative to positioning the cradle; I jammed it roughly in the middle of its travel by inserting object(s) into the opening shown at bottom centre in Door1.jpeg above. That might be easier than threading a wire. Then I modified a small metal ‘L’ bracket to cover the lower chassis (incl. missing -broken lower clip). The top of the L covers and holds the guide (with lug) in position. Unsuccessfully tried to superglue all this in place. Finally succeeded by stretching a very large bulldog clip over the lot. The base of the bulldog clip protrudes into the cavity, but not enough to hamper refitting of the panel. Sorry, no photos, but you get the picture right?
