Turbo in S70 GLT

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! I ordered the vac/boost gauge that MIJ recommended. Got it today and only had time to make a temporary hookup under the hood. My vacuum at the vac tower reads about minus 18 at idle, which is reassuring that vac leaks must not be too bad. I raced the engine to about 4K while the car is sitting still and did not see a boost reading above zero. Not sure if the turbo will kick in with no load on the engine or not.

It won't. Your vacuum reading is spot on! Going down a hill you should pull 20~21. :D

The zero on the gauge may be a little to the left. The readings are:
Vacuum
at idle - 17-18
Downhill - 22 or better sometimes close to 24
Light throttle - 10 to 15

Boost - LPT
Starts at 2500 with load - 3
3000 to 4000 with load - 4 or 5 to max of 7 when punched.

So things look good with the turbo! Thanks to MIJ for suggesting the boost gauge. So far I haven't seen a significant difference between the E and S settings on the transmission. Turbo boost comes on about 2500 either way.

Hmmm. Mine lists as a 99 V70 AWD LT XC. There is no label of "Turbo" anywhere..or....is it just a naturally aspirated engine? Or Do I have a "Light version?"

I've got a "W" switch as well.

XC's all have turbo (low pressure)...from '99 there is only a "W" switch (I think on all but I could be wrong). Volvo got rid of the E/S buttons somewhere along the way (I believe '99).

I have a 98 S70 GLT, it has the S,E,W buttons and I can certainly tell when the turbo kicks in and the S button makes a noticeable difference much of which comes from different shift points, I think.
