Hopefully this is a simple thing. I would suggest leaving the spark plug out on #3. It could just be the plug is bad or the cylinder is flooded with fuel.

Let the car sit over-night and fit a new spark plug tomorrow. When you replaced 3 of the coils, was this one of the ones you replaced? Were they new coils?

Reason I ask is that old coils will crack and can then short to the engine. The coils also fit in a rubber 'boot'. Check that that is also not split.

Still hoping it is a simple issue. If you have access to a compression tester, then naturally worth testing while the plug is out.

One last thing is it could be the injector that is leaking and flooding the cylinder. Once you have let the engine sit overnight with no plug in, try to smell the cylinder tomorrow and see if there is still a strong smell of gasoline. If there is and if you shine a light down the spark plug hole and it is still damp, a leaky injector might be the issue.

Neil.
Thanks you very much for your help, im away from home at the moment but ill try that asap. The coil is new on cylinder 3

I bought a set of 5 new 'Volvo' OE coils from a supplier. I'm not convinced they were not fakes, but one of them arrived cracked and one was DOA. The vendor supplied replacements that worked ok and have done since.

I Will check the coils again but i am now getting spark to all cylinders, did you also get that? Or could it be the quality of the spark that makes Numbers 3 nog runt?

2 things to watch for:

1) You may be getting a spark to each cylinder, but once you install the plug is it firing or shorting out? Not sure how you would check this. The only reason it would short out is if the rubber coil boot is split.

2) You may have a bad injector which may be flooding the cylinder.
