Any special tools needed to replace control arms?

Assuming you mean for 2-bolt control arms:

control arm to subframe bolts: 51 ft-lbs then tighten an additional 120 degrees
ball joint pinch bolt: 37 ft-lbs

Best source for torque specs is the Haynes manual. If you spend much time at all wrenching on these cars I'd recommend getting one. It is excellent for almost all repair jobs, really.

More info about Meyle control arms etc please.
Has anyone else had good or bad experiences to explain how good these parts are?
I just ordered the "Volvo Control Arms Front Suspension Kit (S70 V70) - Meyle HD AWDCAKIT-MY" from FCP and hope I did not make a mistake.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I don't know about Meyle but if you want longevity, stick to Lemforder = Volvo OEM.

Thanks for the feedback.
Hopefully a few years down the road I will be able to report back to this posting saying that they are doing fine. For the few hundred dollars saved, I was told by my sales tech that they are just as good ... and now I hope that he is dead right :)

Actually, if I have to rate them...

If Lemforder is 10, then Meyle is about 8/10.
I used to put Meyle tierod in my 1983 BMW 735i with no problems.

However, the following mfgs should be avoided:
- Hambur Technic: Chinese junk.
- Karlyn: Taiwan junk
- URO: sexy name but Chinese junk.
- MTC (Mission Trading Co): Chinese junk.

I was having alot of clunking in my front suspension so much so I assumed it was the strut mounts, so I take my front end apart and everything up there is in perfect condition. I had to take of the sway bar end link to remove the strut and when I did that the Karlyn end link ball joint fell out in my hand, while the other side of the car has the OEM link with 280,000 KM on it no problems. One of the joints was perfect, and the other joint was rusty with no grease and really pitted etc, it was the lower one that was bad; I assume driving through 6"+ of water multiple times this year did it in.

I doubt it was the deep water.
The low quality boots crack, water and dirt get in, joint is toast.

The "special tool" I needed was a small floor jack to force the bushing into the frame bracket. Like a previous poster counseled, install the pinch bolt first. I first tried to do that last and couldn't align it. But with that bolt in and one bushing started, the other one needed to be moved at least an 1/8 inch rearward. I put a small floor jack under it and it slid in. I tried to adjust the sleeve that holds the bushing but couldn't move it in my 5 inch vice. I didn't like forcing it that much but could see no alternative. Hope I didn't damage the frame bracket that holds it.

BTW: ScanTech also makes control arms. I bought one which was in a differently labeled box—Durmond, or something like that. When I got it home, the sealed plastic bag inside with the arm in it had Scantech's name on it. It looked scanty, so I returned it and bought one from NAPA made in Italy, which does look beefy and probably weighs 20% more (and cost 30% more).

On Hiway 39? in Wisconsin along a construction zone, I ran through a manhole that must have been recessed 5 or 6 inches, though the sides were beveled. I was impressed the bang didn't blow the top off the strut tower or take out my new Pirelli P6. It didn't. Once back on a level road, alignment was still good, with no pulling off center. If the ScanTech had been on there, it's hard to imagine it would have survived that blow—though I realize this is speculation.

Well, I received all my parts today and most everything is exactly as I had expected except for the tie rod ends for the "Volvo Control Arms Front Suspension Kit (S70 V70)". I was told everything included would be `Meyle HD AWDCAKIT-MY` When I opened the kit, I found the tie rod ends to have a sticker on the packaging with the following `HLC made in Taiwan. HTE-6604L and HTE-6604R, Replace Volvo Tie Rod End 271598, 271599`.
I have waited just over a week for these to come in and can`t wait anymore. I expect I will go ahead and install them as soon as I can get the time to do the job. In the mean time, though I have looked online for information about the quality of HLC parts, I have found little to tell me if they are good, bad or anything in between.
Does anyone have anything to comment on the HLC line up of parts please?
