1. I have a 1-gallon ziplock bag full of relays and fuses pulled from junkyard cars. If I had to pick one relay, it would be the fuel pump relay and also instructions for bypassing it if necessary with a paperclip in the socket.
2. The only hard failure I have had is a fuel pump. That's expensive but not hard to change in a 2WD V70. HOWEVER, are you aware of the kind of fix you will be in with an AWD P80 if the fuel pump(s) goes(go) bad?

Matt kind of threw a fast ball here. I started a reply yesterday with lots of great advice until I realized I was about 8 years too late.

I agree with what has been said already. Fuel pump and having an extra Fuel Pump Relay in your glovebox would be a very wise investment. Bring the usual oils/liquids and have your battery and alternator tested. Double check inner/outer tie rod ends for structural integrity. Check axles for leaks. Check engine cam seals for integrity as well. Also bring a good spare tire, not the cheap one that comes standard. You won't regret it incase of a flat. Oh and how can we forget, make sure the timing belt doesn't need a replacement for at least 15k to err on the side of caution.

About 5 years ago I became an informal geocacher ! There was this family custody thing where I had to ferry a kid to see her mom every 2 weeks for 4 hours to near Worcester Mass. I would leave the kid with her and hike in some of the local hills to kill time. I stumbled on a geocache without knowing about the whole thing did a little research and got interested.PDLarson wrote: ↑08 May 2012, 15:29
A handheld GPS or Geocache Navigator on a smartphone for Geocaching. No matter where you are in the world, if you know how to geocache, you will always have something to do. It is a fun family friendly activity and I bet there are some fantastic caches along the way.
I never actually geocached per se , i just looked for places I thought people might put them and found 7 or 8 that way.
I also discovered this other thing called "letterboxing" , I was excited when I found that one thinking it was a geocache but couldn't figure out the inkstamp things until I did some googling.
You have inspired me to start looking for those again
