Re: 2000 V70 XC Electronic Throttle Module Malfunction
Did you perform the simple test I wrote about above to check for a firmware match?

The U-Pull-It here doesn't work that way...I can't bring my car onto the lot. It wasn't that much work to remove since someone had already removed the fan and the car was on blocks...it was just a matter of unscrewing some stuff and $50 bucks so it's worth it to me to just give it a try.

I sent my original ETM to Xemodex for their rebuild service. I just received it back today, installed it and tested. So far so good. Steady idle, no codes, no erratic RPMs at speed. I didn't have the presence of mind to test the cruise control function, but I will next time out. Not sure if I can close the book on this since it was only a ten- twelve minute test drive, but preliminary indications are positive.
Of some concern was a five minute post-engine shut-down running of the cooling fan. It is a black car parked in the sun and temp here today is 81 degrees F. I was also testing the a/c -- a bit weak and perhaps in need of an additional freon charge -- but I am not sure if five minutes of cooling fan action after shutdown should be considered normal in these temps. Anybody got any thoughts on that?
UPDATE: So I was out and about a bit today and noticed that the ETM refurb did not bring cruise control back from the dead, so I'll have to troubleshoot that directly. I noticed some vibration at speed, but I am not sure it is throttle-related. My short-term verdict on the XeModex fix is -- so far, so good. I'll update if that view changes.

I don't recall suggesting you drive onto the wrecking lot. Where would they let you DO that!!precopster wrote:
Just plug the ETM into the connector and turn ignition on. If the ETM turns on, does the high pitch sound and then turns back off YOU HAVE A FIRMWARE MATCH. If it continues to whine with ignition ON it is NOT A MATCH.
If the guys at the pick and pull will let you return it after plugging it in at the car park you can keep trying other ones until you get a match.

I'm sorry...I missed that last part. I can return it if it doesn't work.

So that's a big bonus for you being able to return it if firmware doesn't match and you don't need to spend 1 hour fitting it or paying to have it fitted if it passes the aforementioned test.
Just locate the connector, plug it in, turn ignition on and have a listen.

UPDATE: The ETM from the junk lot was installed and seems to be working (except for the cruise control) so I'm pretty sure I need it programmed at the dealership still if I want to use that. Also, for some reason the radio and engine fan aren't working either...not sure what that's about. Either way, I was so glad to have the ETM fixed...BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!!!
Two days later the check engine light graces me with its presence again....this time: P0013-Camshaft Position. F. U. Volvo! I think I'm switching back to honda.

Back to the junkyard for that sensor. If you switch back to Honda, you'll just be another of the flock....

Does it turn off after 8 secs with ignition on (engine off) or not?
If it does turn off it's just faulty and no cruise control is a giveaway that ETM either has wrong firmware or is faulty.

Does what turn off? The whole car?
Just turned it on (engine off) and it stays on. So if that's what you meant I really think it needs reprogramming...that wouldn't affect the fan or radio though right? Separate issues?
As far as being "one of the flock"...sheep needs to be able to move so it doesn't get eaten by wolves haha.
