Here are some screenshots of another post talking about head/cam cover marriage. I have read plenty of posts on here over the years where mix matches didn't work. It took me about a minute to find the post I took the screenshots from. If I knew how to link posts, I would find a few for you where the cams were frozen due to different cam cover being used. Junebrushhippie wrote: ↑03 Jun 2020, 07:27 I will get some pics of them both..the only difference between the two was the cam sensor hole..went right together and no leaks. My daughter is coming over to help so it should go much faster..this will be our third pull...or drop I suppose.

Wow..I guess I am pretty lucky..I have to assume if it was going to fail it would have.. 10,000 miles should have been plenty for calling it successful? I had heard that about outboard motor block halves could not be swapped but successfully did one of those as well.

I would say luck was on your side! I was shocked the first time I read about it. That's the beauty of MVS! We get to learn from others. June

There is no more valuable resource than the interweb and forums..no matter what you have..if it is mass produced..somebody somewhere has had the same issue. I was looking at the other cover..and it appears that..really all I would have to do is bore a hole through where the other sensor goes and I could use the original cover..since there are concerns..perhaps I should switch it back..lucky or not! Many thanks for the help guys! Got a really good start on it today..I really enjoy working with my daughter..she started helping me troubleshoot outboards when she was 11..she can handle about anything..and knows when to expect flying tools!

Anyone have a favorite supplier of Volvo parts for this rebuild?

Alright well we have an update..got the engine pulled and I was right..it did not bend a single valve..it bent EVERY valve..wow. It shows no damage to the pistons..and zero ridge at the top of the stroke..I am sorely tempted to just do the head..but..there would still be question marks so..I will get the pistons out and get the block and head to my machine guy.

the only thing I found in the cylinders was this cylinder had a couple shallow grooves on one side..not enough for a bore job.

look at the crap on top of the pistons..yuck
For the record..if you could tell..I did it backwards on the drop..it should be down forward..drivers side shaft out then passengers side shaft. If you do it the other way the rack lines are difficult to get by the passenger side shaft.

You could go with one of the MVS sponsors. My car only gets Volvo Genuine parts from my Volvo dealership only. That's just my preference. Have you explored the sponsors like FCP Euro? I would not use Ebay, as I have read on here where people have gotten counterfeit parts rather than the advertised Genuine Volvo part. June
