My wife had one of those too as well as an XR3. I had to be careful in the XR2 being tall. Nearly got concussed going over a hump back bridge by the sunroof surround!

It’s the big day today. Parts came in from Volvo, it’s drill off the old, install the new.

Keys work perfectly in the new unit.

No, I went with the Dremel slot and screwdriver out. That failed miserably.

You don’t have vertical access to the top of the shear bolts so I used a grinder wheel and cut them off killing the tumbler housing too. I’m going to practice releasing the tumbler on this one.

It was two hours total on this job , write up to follow

Unless you pull the whole steering column out. Which is not that much work if you access the rack through the floorboard.

I think I would just go right angle drill rather than pull the column but that wouldn’t be too bad, either.

Well, first step of course.

Now the three T25 under the lower steering wheel trim, the T20x4 holding in the wiper and turn signal stalks

Ignition switch, then the two Torx holding the air bag in. These take 20 full turns to release

Get the wiring and shifter interlock out of the way unbolt the clock ring, unclip the antenna ring.



I Dremeled a slot into the top of the left screw, had a good 6 mm of bite , but couldn’t move it.

Got the angle grinder out and just dug into the housing to release the bolt

The breakaway securitybbolts are T40. The new lock set ships with a dummy plug in the interlock hole, remove it and insert the real one on the car

Manual impact. Take a hammer and chisel give it impacts until you get it to loosen up. You can cut a spot at the end of the slot as a landing for the chisel.
