Vida Monitor runs in the notification tray. By default, it starts up as part of the boot process.
Vida Monitor is JBoss Application Server 7 running on the local port. Type 127.0.0.1 in the url address bar.

Hi Rick,

Thank you. OK, got it. Here's a screen grab showing app server 7 running. Perhaps we're set - but I'm a novice. Would you know if this DICE unit is supposed to show a LED once connected to the PC USB port :

Hi Rick,

I'm wondering if my DICE is a dud. Windows is set to automatically ID & install devices. Windows normally makes a noise when a USB device inserted / removed. No noise with this DICE. Perhaps that is why the "Communication tool" in VIDA only shows "Not selected". "EnableIEHostingx64.reg" was run, and Windows features turn on/off look OK. The DICE is not plugged into the Volvo.

Here's a screen-grab. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Chris

The DiCE needs a power source. Plugged in it draws power from the OBD2 pin#16 ( +12V ) . Not plugged into the OBD2 port you need to power the DiCE from a 12V wall wart. The 12V external port is right next to the OBD cable on the DiCE unit. Two amps is enough current. The DiCE is never powered from the USB port.

In the start menu under DICE there is a Diagnostic program for the DiCE hardware.
You can check in Device Manager to see if the DiCE is running.

Hi Rick,

The DICE plugged into the Volvo and everything works flawlessly. You're a godsend. It is incredulous you've made something written in 2000 work 20 yrs later, considering what it takes to adapt to new OS and new versions of apps. I'm a software developer, and often skeptical of these types of outcomes, so especially appreciative of software that just works as design intended. You've been exceedingly generous supporting me through this. It's been a mission keeping the wagon going since '99, and I'm very hopeful VIDA & DICE in my lap will aid tremendously in extending its life.

Thanks again, and well done!

Chris

Keep a Windows 10 machine around and don't upgrade it to Windows 11. One of Vida's dependencies is ActiveX. That is why the IE11 rendering engine must be installed for Vida to work in windows 10. IE11 components will not be included in Windows 11. No ActiveX in Windows 11 .. no Vida running under Windows 11 unless somebody finds a way to add IE11 in back in. Then it would be a maybe.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the heads up. Probably need to source a lo-end Windows 10 off eBay for VIDA. Please let me know if there's anything specific - hardware wise - that could be an issue going this route.

Thank you,
Chris

That 2015A distro is junk. Toss it in the trash. It is not what the vendors say it is and it often dead wrong. The 2014D is most likely a old distro that only works under Windows 7.

Go here and get the 2014D_RePack and the 2099 patch install them instead. Step by step install instructions are there also. Do all the downloads and follow all the instructions under the Parallels desktop and it should work.
