Okay I am really glad that people are nice enough to post the easy fix for the Volvo A/C problem by installing something a simple as a Bread Clip. I have called several so called Volvo Specialty Repair places knowing that they have to know and be aware of this problem. Every one of them say that they have no idea what the probelm could be and that I have to bring it in for service. That pisses me off! If they would just tell me that it is an easy or relatively inexpensive fix, I would gladly pay them to fix the problem, and not try it on my own. I guess they are trying to prevent people like me from repairing our own cars, and that makes sense. They should just be oopen with me, and not give me the idea that they are looking at me like a free ATM machine.
Okay...enought about that....does anyone have a site where I can go to get step by step instructions on how to attempt the "Bread Clip Fix"? I have read alot about it and it seems to be the problem that I am having, but I would like more detailed instructions. Please reply with with either detailed instructions or a link (web address) to where I can go for the instructions!
Thanks! I am a new Volvo owner, and just purchased my first one which is a 2000 V70.

Just go about 6 or 7 posts back in this thread to my June 7 post with pictures and instructions describing the fix on a 2000 V70 like yours. Post back here if you have any questions after looking it over - it is an easy fix.

2001 S60 here. Classic symptoms.
Tried the broom handle tap but no go. Measured the gap at .8mm so definitely out of spec.
I could see the post about removing the passenger wheel won't help.
So, I just found C@lvin's detailed instructions.
About to try it.
Will post once done

Worked flawlessly! Amazing. WHoever invented the bread clip fix is a hero. Stupid Firestone charged me $49 to tell me my AC blows cold then turns off and wanted to charge me $340 to TEST the system, then they would determine what needed fixing.
This cost me......mmm.......ZERO dollars.
Amazing. Simply amazing.
I posted very detailed instructions for the S60 version in the S60 forums.

I believe someone on Volvospeed has used "e" clips without issue, some folks over there have also used zip ties. I went the intense route, and removed the shims in the clutch assembly. Did it in both my s70 and 850R. Two years on both without issue or futher adjustments.
