Re: Fuel Filter Replacement DIY

Post by kaneelschep »

I just swapped the fuelfilter on my '96 260000 kms volvo 850 T5.
It looked very much like it still had a factory filter. With the undercoating stuff still untouched on the bolt.
When I emptied the old filter out, grey/black unclear fuel came out...
The throttle response is so much more agressive now :D and I can actually feel the power at the max torque moment instead of way later.

I did have some rust and age issue.. The nut broke loose from the bracket :( so the bolt spun freely.
Got it off by getting a 17mm spanner around the nut. It was tight but just fitted there.
I welded it back to the bracket to keep it all original for next time.

Thanks the idea, Matthew! It was working very well for me today.
Some remarks:
1. No jack and jack stand needed
2. WD40 applied to femkve the dirt and making some minor lubricafion to the quick releases.
Cheers!

The rubber nipples came with the new fuel filter I ordered... just put it on the old one in case there was gas leakage.
I feel ya! My 12mm bolt was so rusted on that it actually broke my socket. I'd definitely recommend replacing hardware if possible.
