Drop the kick plate
Drop the kick plate
Replaced the cabin filter on the P2 today

Two Torx 20 screws to undo the kick panel, then u clips in three places

4 Torx 20'screws to drop the filter cover.

I snapped out the plastic block and went with the thick filter over the thin.

IPD has a great video on their website

You should not have done that.
It doesn't have IAQS so all that thicker filter will do is cut down on your nice cold, A/C airflow.
If it's a particularly hot and humid summer, I change to the thinner one even if that car I'm driving has IAQS.
The airflow difference is quite noticeable plus you can run a lower (less noise) fan speed and have the same cooling effect!

I'll see how it does and change if I don't like it.

It's pretty temperate up here in upstate, and this AC is so powerful that I doubt it will be a problem

AC goes off here end of August at latest. We haven't used our house AC yet this yesr

Ran the P2 up to Montreal to watch the US women kick Germany's butt. Spent about 12 hours in the car and was cool and comfortable.

Great!
I think - regardless of IAQS's presence - there is a way to compensate for the losses in the thicker filter and to achieve sufficient airflow rates by tweaking a setting in the CCM; I believe that changes the PWM duty cycle for the blower speed control unit.
Just play some with VIDA, and when you're done, take her for a spin to Key West FL 8)
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

I don't know what are you talking about: both my wagons were upgraded to 1.5" filter and they'll cool me to death, if I allow that. Air flow is sufficient.

I'll probably shuffle between pollen ( thin) in season and charcoal filters ( thick) in summer...just to pad my maintenance post count.

Depends where you live, neither of you probably have the heat and humidity we can get here.
All I know is that what I did worked and I could use one less blower speed (ergo, less fan and interior noise) to achieve the same degree of coldness.
This only applies on REALLY hot and humid days, 90-95 degrees with humidity over 50%, brutal days!

Hit 90 F today and it was fine. I might have gotten so used to the old filter plugged flow that I'm not missing full flow. This P2 is such a dream car, I just have to keep it away from the clutches ... :D Of the college kids.

Surprising as it is, the thin filter is more efficient than the thicker one because air filters are rated by their
MERV rating.. (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) The thin filter has at least 5 times the number of pleats compared to the thicker one, and if you opened up the filters and stretched out the material, the thin one would be at least double the length. Basically it comes down to how many square inches of filter medium there is for it's CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of air. The thick filter looks like it's MERV 8 and and the thin one
a MERV 10 and both of them are perfectly fine except that the thicker one will be clogged up quicker.
