Alright. I may have just been getting tired of debating the issue.
I don't think I was contradictory to myself as much as to some other statements. A leaking Tensioner is definitely unacceptable. A bearing seal, I do not believe I would trust so much either, as to discuss how much it may or may not be leaking.

Second guessing is great unless it leaves you stranded.

about what kind of outcomes result from these situations and I think it's been a pretty fruitful discussion considering how much experience and knowledge has been shared hear about it . Putting together all the information from this long thread bares some pretty strong conclusions about consistent outcomes in this kind of situation . That's a pretty big benefit for people like me who haven't had the opportunity to figure it out from direct experience . It's a great feeling to be able to make a judgement call for something so critical with a good amount of confidence . Anyone can say just replace it in this situation , but judging by the wealth of experience provided on this board , it sounds like you might have a very costly proposition of repeatedly replacing a bearing until you got one that never spun any grease out . And I mean costly time wise or money wise depending on whether or not you doing the work yourself .

- I agree that leaking hydraulic tensioner is a serious issue. If one sees oil leak at the HT, replace the HT ASAP, do not forget the white plastic cap!

- On the issues of grease leaking from pulley bearings: I have seen it all, Volvo, BMW, Honda etc. you name it.
The last time I did the 98 S70 GLT Timing Belt @145K, the factory pulleys lasted 15y/145K w/o any issues. There was however a thin film of grease on the outside, which I assume was present there for the last 15 years.

Anyway, johnnyfd, just relax and periodically check that area, it is easy, only a 13-mm bolt.

Four pages in as many of days! I need to go look at my TB change that I did close to 90,000 miles ago and check the grease. Did change everything at that time and the cover has not been removed again. I use this forum to learn and pass on anything I can from what I have learned. What I have gathered is a little loss in some things is OK, but not in others.
Now I will undo that massive 13 mm or 12 mm bolt and check it out. Maybe even take a picture.
I took into consideration the views of this forum on what parts to use in the TB change, and it must of worked.
