I never understood the need to replace a simple, cheap and easy to maintain throttle cable with an expensive problem prone device such as an ETM.
Having said that, does anyone know if the later models have improved with respect to this "feature"?

It replaces a throttle cable, a trouble prone FPR, a trouble prone IAC, all the cruise control hardware, the distributor, cap, rotor, spark plug wires. My ETM went 137000 miles before it packed up.
After the Magnetti-Marelli ETM, a Volvo went to Bosch or Denso units that were better.

Yes I think you're getting the hang of what I explained in detail further up this thread. If the ETM continues that high pitch whine with ignition on and engine off, the wrong firmware is fitted.AuntBirdie wrote:Does what turn off? The whole car?
Just turned it on (engine off) and it stays on. So if that's what you meant I really think it needs reprogramming...that wouldn't affect the fan or radio though right? Separate issues?
As far as being "one of the flock"...sheep needs to be able to move so it doesn't get eaten by wolves haha.
With correct firmware the ETM will time out in around 8 secs with engine off and ignition ON.
You could have done this check in the pick and pull carpark and simply brought it back in for a refund or exchange because it wasn't a match for your car.
Hey Steve it only lets air in the engine. It doesn't replace cap, leads, high tension wires and rotor. The newer coil packs are driven by the pulse provided by the cam sensor; nothing to do with the ETM.
