Cookeh wrote: 18 Nov 2020, 11:20 Today I started removing my o/s driveshaft to replace the perished inner and split outer CV boot. Very successful all told... six hours in and rain has suspended play. So far I've irreparably bent a 5ft breaker bar removing the axle nut, then I've sheared off both nuts holding the control arm bushings to the subframes. This meant I had to cut the bolt heads off the bolts in order to remove the control arms (the balljoint bolt also sheared) and then drill the bolts out from the bushings.

Hey, at least the 12mm driveshaft carrier bolts came loose without issue.
So in other words it's going marvelously
But sometimes a sheared off bolt does actually save time. Sometimes.
Try to learn life's bad lessons vicariously through others.

Usually when it's a through-bolt like for a strut or something.

Making some space to take the engine out with limited ceiling height

I replaced the radiator/intercooler last december, so it didn't take long to do it again 8) Even managed to limit the amount of spilled coolant/oil

Let those 🐴 Horses run free....

Elizabeth took me and the the twins 200 miles to our cottage where we knocked down the garage and brought home the lumber for the job.

Have a whole trailer of C&D to Dump too....poor Elizabeth pulled this load through the Catskills. York’s, that tongue weight looks nasty heavy.

House project coming along...

Positively swimmingly...! I got up two hours earlier today and broke out the LED worklights to remove the bearing mount and driveshaft. I replaced both boots, cleaned up the ABS tone ring and slapped the driveshaft back in. All in under an hour, which it what it should have taken originally!

I finally found a use for my whitworth socket set too...pressing the worn and damaged control arm bushings out. Everything is now ready to go when the new bushings and bolts arrive - which should be later today.
