Have the seals, am wondering now if I should start the car and go through each gear to eliminate any noise from the transmission.

I don’t think I want to switch places with you scot850! Your dash looks like any amount of glue would not be enough! But you have made some amazing repairs elsewhere, so maybe there’s hope! Good luck with that project!

I am being sneaky and using the significantly better 'spare' from the stash. "I had a feeling about this", as a Jedi would say! :D

The 'spare' has only one slightly cracked mount and a small repair needed on one screw mount for the upper to lower dash screws around the glove box opening. I will reinforce it and weld it.

Thanks for the encouragement!

More importantly, did you manage any progress yourself today? I don't think anything should stop you doing what you are suggesting, but just watch for trans oil loss. The fluid does not typically drain when sitting, but when moving it will splash out the axle holes in the trans.

Unless others have a reason it would hurt something I would. I would want the reassurance the previous grinding noise is not coming from the transmission.

I did start the car and was able to shift into each of the gears without any problems.
Got the drivers side axle in with a new spring clip and seal.
Still need to put the tire back on, lower that corner of the car, torque the axle nut before I can restart the car to test the transmission/axle for any grinding noise.

I managed to get the tire on and torqued the lug nuts and the axle nut. Then raised the car again so I could test the transmission. There is no problem shifting through the gears, but when I move the shifter to park, there is noise - like the beginnings of a grinding noise. I can not shift into park with the car running. I am reluctant to force it.
Thoughts?

Will try to get a video sound recording and paste it here.

Appreciate your thoughts on what might be causing this noise. Thanks in advance!

Now, to clean up the mess under the transmission!

Just to make sure the obvious is asked... You brought the axles rotation to a complete stop before you attempted park, correct?
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

I installed the drivers side axle, started the car and pressed down on the brakes before shifting into and out of each gear. But when it came to shifting back into park, the noise started.

Not really sure what to do.
Still need to install the passenger side axle, but am uncertain if that will cause more problems/damage.
Appreciate your help!
