Russ,

I am not stubborn, I have owned many BMWs and Volvos. I rarely buy parts from dealers b/c I don't want to get ripped off by the dealer(s).
I buy aftermarket but OEM parts (same part makers but minus the BMW and Volvo logos). These are the brands I stick to: Wahler, F.A.G. bearing, Bougicord, Bosch cap/rotor, Pierburg, Lemforder etc.

Now, if you go to NGK website, you will see NGK 6418 (BKR6EIX) Iridium is listed for all Volvo 5-cylinder turbo and NA models. See the link below:

http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/

So, I am not stubborn, I go with the mfg list, and I know that Iridium is superior to copper, no questions about it.

If I can make an analogy then:
- Iridium = iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, mp3
- Copper = Cassette Player, nothing wrong with Cassette Player, it still gives you music, until you have to rewind lol...

Now if people only know Cassette Player, then they don't know there is something better.

---------

This is very simple issue:
- Fitment: whether Volvo 5-cylinder NA or Turbo, the spark plug is the same.
- No. of prongs, 1, 2, 3, 4 who cares, the more prongs the worse. Search BMW forums for broken prongs from the quad plugs. So it is back to 1-prong.
- Metal material: Copper, Platinum, Iridium. Who cares when new, they are all the same during the first 25K-30K, after that there is a difference between the boys and the men...lol..

The above interval is TRUE for copper.

Iridium is 100K interval. Every single Honda, Toyota coming from showroom has Iridium and the recommended interval is 100K. Even in my Honda, I take the spark plugs out at 50K simply to inspect and apply antiseize (to prevent galling) and re-install the plug. At 100K, it looks good.

If you guys/girls don't believe what I say about Iridium, below is a post I started on Honda Odyssey forum a few years ago (3rd Gen Honda Odyssey uses Iridium from factory), see the post by "06EXL"

from Honda forum wrote:"06EXL" said...I just replaced the plugs on my 06 EX-L with about 95K miles - original plugs and they still had gap of .043 +/- .001", which is within spec for Honda Odyssey...
It is your car, you can stick to Volvo OEM copper forever, nothing wrong with it, just replace after ___ miles.

But if you ever switch to Iridium, you won't look back. Look...I can only lead the horse to the water...

@abscate, I tried by the Iridium but Iridium didn't fit in the holes. I called 1-800 number but the line was busy all day. Can you help?

No problem buddy, I am just telling people there is a better option for their hard-earned money.
My message all along is copper is yesterday's technology akin to the Cassette Player lol...
(I still have a Cassette Player in my basement)...

As long as we all have fun and respect each other's opinions in the forum, then it is fine.
After all, this is a democratic society, every opinion counts.
@abscate, please help me, I am lost haha!!!

Doesn't my Volvo cassette player have auto-reverse???

Alright....send abscate a set of the correct iridiums and he can try them and report back in 100K how they held up.
That will at least help get him out of his present dilemma. :D

Before I send Iridium to abscate, I will do my best to show him how to find the holes for Iridium.
It is step-by-step DIY, very easy. Here you go...

Hey guys, very informative thread. I was going to start a new thread then I stumbled upon this!

I have a 2000 V70 XC. I was wondering, I have an ARD TCV in my car. Should I go with iridium plugs since the TCV will be adjusting the timing faster? Or are the stock 3 prongs good enough to handle the horsepower gains?
"I'm bored, I'm gonna go work on the car"
...

"Again?!?"
