Re: About To Send ECM Out For Repair - Need Advice Quickly !

Post by jcb »

Have driven the car for the last few days and still no driving issues. Haven't checked again to see if there are any hidden codes or how the emission monitors are doing.

abscate,

Your right about needing to get VIDA - especially since I have this 2001 XC and a newer 2013 XC70. Also, one of my sons has a 1998 V70 and a 2013 XC90, both of which I wind up servicing.

RichHaleParker,

Before you supplied the specific Volvo detail, I did run into a number of comments by owners of other makes commenting on P1367. As you said, the code meant different things to them.

azreblue,

Thanks for the input. Up until this last "blitch", the problem was clearly with #1 cyl only. I do believe X corrected this by finding the ECM signal ground to that cyl and repairing it. Still, it's possible that something with the ECM got disturbed during that repair. But it's also possible that something was disturbed on my end. Note that I switched coil packs and plugs several times during the initial troubleshooting. So, I think time will tell at this point as to whether this is a repeatable problem. If it does repeat, I'll go from there.

QUICK UPDATE: After driving for a week, found that all emission monitors had reset again. CEL still not illuminated. Most important, no stored or pending DTC codes in memory (no P1367). Had emission test done and it passed as expected. So all is good for now. Will update on any changes.

A Merry X'mas and a Happy New Year to all !

JCB interesting story about your BMW ECM experience however you only need the Dice USB driver (not the whole software suite called Vida) and some remote login software provided by our forum member guru and an internet connection. Many of the gripes you may have read are with the difficulty of installing Vida on Windows OS. The Dice driver is a simple double click. Best option with a Vida install is to run a virtual setup to avoid the install headaches.

I just replaced the ECM on our 2002 XC70 due to a condition that would shut the engine down during driving with Doublebug's help and I must say it was child's play and car was out of action literally for only 40 minutes vs weeks for a returned item from Canada.

Happy Christmas to all and good fortune for the New Year!!

Has anybody found a way to offset the date in a virtual machine? 2014D expires 12/31/2017 23:59.
I have dedicated hardware with the clock set back to 2014 and no network time and date sync.
I would like to move it to a virtual machine but I know it will time out at the end of the year.
