I've been pondering a set of those for sale up here Ben.

Never seen a set of them on an XC or V. Surely would look better than the corroded, curb-checked, flakey-paint clunkers (barely) hanging onto my hubs.
I think you'll like these more Pete.

Are you sure the offset is ok for older cars? I think not.

I did not compare but I've been using this excellent website to check Wheel Fitment.

Which would you buy all things considered in terms of cost of ownership and ease of DYI? Am considering purchasing one of these. The 2011 XC60 has the transmission and P0430 problem. Owner purchased for daughter in Nov. 09 so don't know if it is consuming oil and causing the P0430 for the CATS. Was thinking of the Scotty Kilmer Lacquer Thinner Trick might fix the P0430.

That's a great site!
The site confirms that the newer wheels will not fit a P80 car without modification and adapters, personally I wouldn't bother although I also agree those are nice looking wheels.

The offsets are manageably different: 50mm for the new wheels vs 43mm for the P80
The center bore differences preclude using the new wheels on a P80 without boring them out: 63.4mm for the new wheels vs. 65.1mm for the P80

I can understand that he wants a return on those parts, but $1k for a parts car? Yeah, no. That's a $500 car tops. People don't seem to understand that parts they put into a car (namely tires) don't raise the value... especially when it can't be driven home.

I'd lean towards the XC90 for ease of repair and ownership cost. The 3.2 in the XC60 is a good engine from what I've heard, and not terrible to work on (again, just from what I've heard), but I know for a fact the 2.5T is very easy to work on. It's a 2006, final year for the 5 cylinder XC90, so it's probably the best year to have.

The AWD system requires a little attention, but it's nothing bad. I'd recommend replacing the AOC fluid and filter if it hasn't been done to keep the pump and DEM in good shape. Otherwise, the AWD is pretty reliable and low maintenance.

The 3.2s are known for oil consumption and have been known to have issues with the READ. Being a 2011, it likely wouldn't have any problems with the READ but the possibility of consumption issues still exists. Probably not anything unrepairable (PCV getting clogged is common, and much easier to repair than the white block PCV) but I just don't know enough about them.

Considering only ease of DIY there is no question - the 06 hands down. Cost of ownership probably a wash but unpredictable.

Overall I'd also go with the XC90 unless you specifically want a small car (XC60) or one that is already problematic.

Thanks for the input (bmdubya1198, erikv11). I'm leaning towards the 2011 due to it's never and safer features. From looking at reviews on Youtube it drives like a car. Wife want reliability and ease of repair so the XC90 is probably the better choice.

The XC60 does have new Michelins whereas the XC90 new Westlake tires  . If only I could get my hands on it to see if I can cure the P0430 with lacquer thinner and do a flush on the tranny? In terms of cleanliness I think the XC90 is in great condition from the pictures.
Blessings,

BKM
