Baddddd... asssssssss...
Just replaced two bulbs in my 99 V70 XC... it was exactly as described in the how-to...
I got them from the honda dealership here and they said the part number changed from n-01 to b-02... whoopty doo... and they were $1.37 each, so I bought two and discovered I needed to replace two.
Hell of a deal for under three bucks and 15 minutes of work.

All I can say is thanks a lot. I am not particularly handy but this walk through was so clear and easy to follow that I completed the fix in 20 minutes as was suggested. The current cost for the Honda bulb was $1.75 per unit at Goudy Honda in Alhambra, CA. Thanks again!
This works and I'm grateful for that since hitting the wrong button in the dark prompts the radio to ask for some setting or another that won't go away until the car is shut off. . However the bulbs in my case, purchased from Honda, have only lasted one year. This time I've decided to leave the little blue gel covers off the bulbs to see if they are keeping enough heat in the bulb to shorten its life. I like the incandescent look anyway
The Volvo Bulbs that work is the following Part #30752175 they come 5 to a bag they retail for aproximatly 5.00 each & they are blue & give a nice soft light in the dark & yes these bulbs are used for the XC90 but they fit exactly & are cheaper then the bulbs for the switches

Just got this comment mailed to me from Christian:
Excellent post and instructions about replacing burned out lights bulbs in the radio. After hours of online learing about and searching for "neo-wedge" T1 bulbs, I finally called my local Honda dealer and picked up 10 of the smallest bulbs that fit the radio and two of the panel swithes. Then I went to Radio Shack and picked of 6 packs of the 272-1092 bulbs. I carefully unwound each of the taller T1 bulbs that are in the panel switches. Then re-wound the new Radio Shack bulbs back onto the taller "neo-wedge" bases for all of my panel lights.
Clearly, this DIY project is not for the non-technical. But, when Volvo wants $8.44 per bulb, instead $1.50 for a pair at Radio Shack, some intricate patience and technical skills sure pay off.
Also, in your post on the radio bulbs, I have a SC-815, and the face plate removal is different. It's a bit more delicate, but still easily done.

What I find funny is that out of all the posts on Matthews Volvo, the all time winner, with almost 14,000 views and 75 posts so far, is about replacing those %#*@ radio light bulbs!

Just wanted to say i changed all my bulbs on my radio by following the instructions in here... Great write up and instructions.. Took me about 30 min. to replace all 5. I chose to go with the radio shack way.. wasn't hard at all to rewind the wires into the holders.. Now all my lights work! This site is great! Thanks everyone
