Without knowing more about it, I would have to agree.

Thanks for the info on the oi. FWIW I did a drain/refill with Castrol Domestic Dex III ATF which according to it's spec sheet meets IIE specs and it f***ed up my tranny again. It is back to doing what it did prior to my first drain/refill with Wal-Mart fluid. I promptly did another drain/refill with Wal-Mart Supertech and it has eased a bit but I'm sticking with the Wal-Mart brand for now. FWIW my car drops out of gear when coming to a stop when hot. The first two drain/refills completely fixed it but putting Castrol in there made it do it again.instarx wrote:Be very careful about any automotive fluids you buy at Wal-Mart. There is a reason supertech ATF is $2.20 per quart and not $10 -- and it isn't because Wal-mart is such a good negotiator. Although much of it looks name-brand it is often special order Wal-mart stuff. For example, Wal-mart sells "ExxonMobil SuperTech 5W-40" motor oil that is a very low-quality base oil with very few additives (source: Bob's The Oil Guy). You can't buy that oil anywhere but at Wal-mart even though it looks like a genuine national Exxon brand.wheelsup wrote:The "regulars" on here are going to cringe but I used the wal-mart special "Supertech" 4-qt. $9 jug for my drain/refills. I don't know this for a fact, but I suspect that "Supertech" is the wal-mart house label that is always formulated to sell at the lowest possible price.
If you buy oil there make sure the label is exactly the same as an oil you can buy somewhere else, like at an Autozone. If you can't find "Supertech" transmission fluid anywhere but at Wal-mart you are taking a big risk in my opinion. This isn't a rant on Wal-mart - just a fact.

well matt, nobody else is going to do it, so i'll go ahead and give you the bad news. If you've got 145K....It aint the oil my friend. Start saving your money, and start looking now at eirie vovo or volvo and saab dismantlers for a wrecked car with a rebuilt or low mile tranny. The end is near.

Yep I know, although it's been doing it for 3 years/30,000 miles so I'm just waiting till it blows
. Can you use a Saab AW50-42LE tranny on our cars? I've found a lot lower mileage trannys off of the 9-3 and 9-5 cars because they are younger (98-02 model years I believe).
It did completely go away when I used Supertech fluid so I'm hopeful that doing some more drain/refills with it to get that Castrol out of there will fix it...for now.

Use the supertech flush again and see what happens (it worked once, right?) I do agree though that most likely it's on its way out.

I'd love to do a flush, I'm just scared to take my hoses off the radiator...

So I just settle for drain/refills. Actually the one on the bottom is fine, it looks normal, it's just this top one that is rusted.

...and that's the one you need to remove
I guess I would be tempted to just do the drain and fill myself too, especially if I didn't want to fool with things. That said, if I had a whole day to devote to this and had spare parts available, I would probably risk it and take it off...most likely it's just the outside that's rusted. The ATF in and of itself would keep the inside clean.

Its not as bad as it looks. You might need to brush off the rust and clean it before you take the hose off.wheelsup wrote:I'd love to do a flush, I'm just scared to take my hoses off the radiator...
This is mine after flush.
