These will cause PTSD with cooling system issues... that's how a friend of mine was with his S60R lol.

I felt the same way. An all aluminum engine, coupled with a temp gauge that is a bit vague. So I mounted one of these Scan Gauge's.
I am able to watch the temp by degree, which has eased my mind considerably.

I fixed the stress level by giving the R to my wife to drive!

Every single day driving my old V70. I knew it had a bad head gasket patched with a head gasket sealer though. It was knowing there were things that i may need to fix but not having the time to fix it. I must say though, having CAA (AAA for americans) gave me a lot of peace of mind. They came when my rad froze on the highway and drove it to a place i could work on it.

On the anxiety levels i rank it as follows (low to high)
Exhaust
Suspension
Alternator/power steering
Fuel related
Cooling Systems

If you are really worried keep a spare fan in the trunk. Doesnt take too long to change one of them if you do suspect a failure.

Replaced the driver seat controls yesterday, impressively easy to do

Now this morning the car wouldn't run properly (wont rev, almost stalling )

Is the seat control part of the engine management ?

...actually it's probably because I unplugged the battery, will troubleshoot tomorrow

Don't think so. The only connection might of been the air-bag control, but that is not linked through the same part of the harness, and it would throw a code. Did you try switching the engine off and trying to restart it? If the issue goes away, it is likely your electrical part of your ignition switch is worn.
