2007 xc70

Post by Iluvvolvos »

Hi everyone I hope I’m finally putting this in the right place, I have a 2007 XC 70 cross country wagon I’ve had it now probably about six or seven years the brakes are horrible they basically I don’t even drive the car because the brakes are so bad They are literally down to the floor and I keep pumping and pumping them up and that only helps on medication sometimes when I go to stop on the brakes I mean literally my foot will go all the way down.

I woke up saying that last time they checked and they said everything with the brakes was fine they said the only thing it could be and I’m probably saying this wrong is a brake vacuum system or a brake vacuum? But they said they had no way to really test that unless they took out the old one and put a new one in which is very very expensive .. But when they test drove my car months ago they said the brakes were a little bit bad but not really bad enough what could this possibly be is it the vacuum system and what exactly is that?

do you know how to bleed the brakes?
I would want to make sure theres no air in the system first.
Vacuum fail should make the pedal harder to press, soft pedal sounds more like air in the lines.
Air is compressible, fluid is not.
Got tools?
A jack, 2 jackstands?

First thing I would do is flush the brake fluid. Just did my 2008 and the fluid was nasty, my brakes were starting to do better on a double pump and that is gone now. One liter of high quality DOT4+ and you can get the job done for $21. A bleeder helps if you'd like to make it a one person job. Lots of YouTube videos to help. Any trusted mechanic could do it too.

I would also check the caliper springs to make sure they're on correctly, post a picture on this thread. If those springs were installed incorrectly the pedal will go all the way to the floor with brand new brakes.
