i have a 95 850 T. I noticed that my engine coolant light came on the other day but it quickly went away. This morning it was on again so i popped my hood. The expansion tank level was rather low and so obviously I have a leak somewhere. Any suggestions about where to start looking, or where common leaks are located?

Thanks in advance

Mine did the same thing once it got very cold. The warning light will come on when the coolant gets just below the full cold line. I added a pint or so of coolant mix and it hasn't come back on. Just as the coolant expands when it gets hot, it shrinks as it gets cold.

I'd just keep an eye on it and see if the problem redevelops.

I too believe that the cold weather is a factor for your low indicator. I would be more concerned if the reservoir was empty.

I know the cooling system well after today. I finally tackled the lower radiator hose. It is a royal PITA to remove it from the rear of the engine block. I also replaced the two reservoir hoses and cap.

Might be worth taking a look at the plastic end caps at either side of the Rad. Eventually they start to fatigue as a result of constantly expanding and contracting. Hair-line cracks can develop that allow tiny amounts (at first) of coolant to escape.

The thing to look out for is white calcium-like deposits or even wetness in some of the nooks and crannies in the plastic.

If it's any consolation, if the rad is shot, replacing them isn't too big a deal if you have a weekend spare and the patience of a saint
