iPhone 4 camera uncooperative at times. Repair pics on the failed item only partially successful.
Nice and shiny from Mother Göteborg
After the rollback ride, I did a temp fix so I could yard drive it while waiting for the new pedal ( see "...TASCA..." for that adventure.)
The broken pin stayed with the clutch control cable, I was able to wrestle a wire tie through the loop of the clip and stick the broken stub back into the pedal.

Creative thinking indeed! What can't be fixed with some wire, duct tape and zip-ties?!!

The failure sequence likely started a while ago. The edge of the pin at the break shows some age; it just took a while for the pin to ease out of the pedal and the whole mess fly apart. The pedal went to the floor and stayed there. Me: walking. Car: rollback.
Hard to see but the remnants of the pedal side of the pin shows the break was inside the stamping, not at the factory weldment.
...and there is a witness mark where the collar rocked back and forth for a bit.
The pedal isn't bar stock or a casting, it's actually a pretty complicated stamping mandrel bent, and welded together along the seam,
...then lots of other stuff happens to it.

Once it was cleaned up it was time to test long-dormant fabrication skills.
The pedal side of the pin must have been pushed through a close tolerance hole on the outboard side, probably a little proud of the stamping, and surface welded. Didn't get a before pic. The trick was finding the center; the plan was to drill enough material to allow plug welding from the outboard side, but leave enough of the stub to give the weld more base material than the pedal stamping itself. The jagged moonscape of the remnant made getting it centered from the inside a bit of a challenge.
Once the pilot was sort of where it needed to be, the hole was stepped up in a couple of gulps.
Happy with both sides, on to the squeaky clean phase.

The collar on the pin remnant showed a small gap between it and the stamping on the inboard side, so it was tacked first,
...then the outboard side was plug welded, and finally the collar was finish welded.
Neither the original pedal nor the replacement were welded on the inboard side.

Cleaned it up a bit,
...keeping in mind if it has to go back in a car, it is buried pretty deep. Nobody will know what it looks like. Welding skills have a pretty short shelf life, so no rock-throwing at my gobs, please. It's been a while since I struck an arc in anger.

Nice. Those vintage vice grips, outsourced to China in 2008 by Rubbermaid, are now being manufactured again in DeWitt, NE by Malco
I won’t be buying the Vice grip name anymore from Wall Street.
