2001 Volvo C70 Won't Start

Post by sglallc »

I have a 2001 Volvo C70 Convertible 2.3L engine that needed a key made and won't start with the new key. The key was by a locksmith that took the immobilizer (Only,,, took it out of the car) to make the key. The immobilizer was then corrupted and would not allow any more keys to be added. It was advised that a new immobilizer was needed. Can a used immobilizer be used or would a new one be needed? And even with another immobilizer can a new key and the new immobilizer be programmed to sync with the ECM? Thank you.

If I recall you have to reprogram all the keys at the same time using the code supplied with the key on the packaging. You would be best to ask a Volvo dealer if they can wipe and re-program the system. Not sure they can.

Doublebug may be able to answer that question.

You need the whole car to program a new key ona 1999- Volvo, a VIDA subscription , and internet connection to the Volvo server. That was doomed to fail. I doubt the immobilizer got corrupted , is that Volvo saying that?
