The power steering pressure hose started leaking at the crimp so I pulled it out and bought a replacement. Can’t get the replacement to fit in the car, but it has all the same bends as the original hose. I must be routing it wrong, but I did not take photos of the original before removing it.
Can somebody with the same car please take reference photos of the power steering pressure hose from the steering rack up to the power steering pump?
The way I have the hose installed now looks like it fits on the steering rack just fine, but up front there is a sharp bend in the hose that interferes with the oil pan. I must be routing it wrong and it is not obvious to me how it’s supposed to go.
Photos of the way I have the new one routed and the interference at the oil pan are below.
Thank you
2008 s60 2.5T - Need photos of power steering pressure hose
This job sucks but it is possible to do in the driveway if you have some vehicle ramps and 2 jackstands. I will outline the process for anyone who needs to replace the power steering pressure hose on a budget.
This worked on a 2008 volvo s60 2.5T FWD
Use parking brake and wheel chocks of course. This is an outline of what I did.
Drive car onto vehicle ramps
Jack up front end as high as you’re comfortable with
Place jackstands under forward jack pins on either side of the car (rear wheels touching ground, front wheels barely touching ramps or raised off the ramp)
Remove jack
Remove radiator fan
Unplug large air hose that goes over the engine from the rubber hose in front of the engine
Loosen steering rack fasteners so you can get the exhaust hanger bracket under the rack off
Remove exhaust hanger bracket under the rack (or tuck it out of the way)
Get the old pressure hose out (I mangled and cut mine to get it out)
To put the new hose in, thread the end that goes to the rack down through the engine compartment and get the sharp bend under the hose crimp positioned about where it should go.
Start working the rack end into position. Pay attention to the way you route it around the power steering return line.
I guess the trick is to raise the front end of the car high enough to manipulate the hose from under the car. The radiator fan gets in the way so it must be taken out. The exhaust hanger bracket gets in the way too. You may have to bend down the riv nut tab near the oil pan to get the hose in.
Good luck be patient
