Hi,
I need some advice from some knowledgable people regarding a repair on my Volvo V70 2.0D from 2008.
I brought it to the mechanic 18 months (and 18000km ago) because the clutch pedal dropped. They fixed everything using a clutch repair kit (flywheel, master cylinder, ....?). Cost 1500Eur in total.
A few weeks ago, the pedal was down again. This time they told me the pump by the pedal needs replacing, another 300Eur.
Now, it dropped down again. They told me it is my fault and suggest I probably keep my foot on the clutch all the time when driving (this is the first time in 30year of driving I am having trouble with the clutch, and they were all Volvos) or I towed over the limit (which is also bogus as I sold my trailer 8 years ago and never towed again).
The flywheel overheated and needs to be replaced. This caused a leak in the pumps (not sure if it is both the master cylinder and the one from the pedal).
In my opinion they have it backwards....
An oil leak between the 2 pumps caused the pedal to drop, which in turn makes the clutch engage a little causing overheating and excessive wear.
Does this make any sense? They told me they can repair it and offered me no labour cost and a discount, but still wanted me to pay 750Eur.
I am not a mechanic, but doesn't this sound wrong? In Portugal there is a 2year warranty on parts and labour (repairs), if it is caused by "misuse", or if it is a part that wears out. I am alleging excessive wear due to a faulty pump, or faulty installation. A flywheel should not wear out in 18monts/18000km, but can be expected to live (way) beyond 60000km.
Any comments? Suggestions?
Thanks,
Flatlander
