I knew when my daughter bought the car in December that the alarm module was bad. That wasn't a big deal, I replaced it with a new one from FCP in January.
That didn't fix the problem though, the error message on the dash came on at first start up. I thought maybe it's a residual code and I had to clear it with VIDA, but that did nothing. My conclusion was that the new module was bad right out of the box, and so this weekend I replaced it with another one. Same story, the "alarm system service required" message came right back.
I am thinking that the parts from FCP are all old stock and the batteries went bad just sitting on the shelf. But am I missing something here? Or is it really just bad luck.
I will email FCP and see what their word of wisdom might be. But they probably have no way of knowing how old the parts are that they sell.
For now, I am thinking of just pulling the fuse until I can figure this out. I saw elsewhere online that this is possible, and other than the message coming back all the time, there should be no other problems. Is that true?
What do you experts think?
Thanks, Dirk

Look at the build code on the alarm module. Snap pic so we can figure burnout.
Let’s get that 99 going too. Sorry I’ve been offline so much

Often the plastic casings have a mold mark on them with dates when the plastic was molded. That may give you an idea of the age of the part.
Are you sure the alarm module is the issue? It causes lots of other issues with thinks like the sunroof when it goes bad, so perhaps it is something else on the system that is bad and not the module itself.
Neil.

Thanks Steve, where do I find the build code? I wish I had known this, because now it's all buttoned up and the car is going back to Boston on Friday. I pulled the fuse for the module so my daughter doesn't have to deal with random alarms going off. The car is parked right next to someones bedroom window the next street over. Pulling the fuse seems to have no ill side effects, I am driving it today and everything is behaving normal.
I also emailed FCP and I'm waiting to hear what their suggestions are.
I would love to get Matilda going again, the old gas in the tank is making me nervous. Lets be in touch about it. This year has been crazy so far with so many other projects going on.
Dirk

Hi Neil, thank you. I still have the first one that I replaced, so I can check the plastic housing on that. Good idea.scot850 wrote: ↑01 Apr 2024, 15:20 Often the plastic casings have a mold mark on them with dates when the plastic was molded. That may give you an idea of the age of the part.

Neil.
I was also wondering if there might be something else going on. I went in with VIDA to take a look, but I cannot tell if some of those codes could be interrelated. They seem trivial to me, but I'm no expert. I have heard about the sunroof issue, but that is working normally, as well as everything else in the car.

I'm no expert on electrics as you probably well know! However looking at the codes I don't think any of the other 5 have a connection to your issue or than the alarm communication fault.
Seat heater , mirror x 3 and IAQS fault seem to be unrelated.
Neil.

Siren communication fault is why you get that Alarm com fault on DIM.
Its fault symptoms includes "Alarm does not work".
Alarm consist of multiple modules on P2 to create "Alarm System":
CEM, UEM, CCM, DDM, PDM, MMS, DIM, ISM, REM, Siren module and multiple Volvo Guard™ stickers at windows and switches here and there and or wires at windows.
Which ever your car is equipded with. not all have all.
scot850 did throw correct with being "mirror" for that.
If i would be i would focus at UEM module specially connection with its connection to Siren Module (16/35) (com is via Volcano Lite serial not CAN Bus).
Plus because VIDA is so lovely design.. Select "Delivery" tab not "initial State" if you used more than one time Vida on same car as you looking at history many cases.
Footnote before others comes say front of my face again.
Wait third independed party to confirm anything what i say. Trust only Americans®.

Does the UEM live inside the rear view mirror? I wonder because I had a leak in my windshield and has some gremlins for a while..

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

See if you can load module ID info in VIDA, it might give the date code , too.
