99 S70 Heater Hose Upgrade
In the process of doing a head gasket repair on my 1999 S70 GLT B5254 I decided to upgrade all of the coolant hoses, gaskets and seals. I ordered a silicone hose kit from G-Plus but it doesn’t include heater hoses…
… So I ordered the do-kit126R heater hose kit from do88 Performance*
https://www.do88performance.com/en/arti ... -c70-94-99
The kit contains both heater hoses (no clamps or connectors) and comes in black, blue and red. I chose red because - I don’t know.
Installation/upgrade procedure:
First step after removing the 2 hoses is to cut the crimp connectors from the copper pipes. I used a right angle grinder with a cutting disc. Clamping the hose to a work surface makes for a more controlled and safer cut.
Cut the crimp connecter being careful to not cut into the copper connecter or the ridge/shoulder at the end of the connector. Cut both sides 180 degrees apart.
Here is a photo of how deep I made the cuts.
You don’t need to cut all the way through the end of the crimp connector that is perpendicular to the hose, it will break when you pry the two halves apart. This will help prevent cutting the ridge/shoulder.
After removing the crimp you may need to finish cutting through the old hose to remove it.
It’s a good idea to get a heater pipe seal kit and replace the plastic connectors and o-rings. I used this kit;
The plastic locks are simple to replace. Just pry up the plastic retainers and slip the lock connector off the pipe
Install the new hoses onto the heater pipes and clamp. I didn’t have the correct size Oetiker clamps so I had to use regular hose clamps on both ends. I had intended to use Oetiker clamps on the firewall side as those connections will seldom need to be separated.
Reinstall the hoses
The next upgrade is eliminating the horrible rigid steel turbocharger oil and coolant lines!
* I have no association with do88 Performance, G-Plus or MTC Parts. I use the respective parts because these companies make parts for the P80 cars.
