Throttle body questions....
Throttle body questions....
I found several YouTubes on cleaning the TB on my 2006 XC70. Seems like a 'chore'....not really accessible, some knuckle scraping, etc. Given the amount of effort to remove, clean and replace....does it make sense to spend the $290 on a new body? I fear that I will remove, clean and replace...only to find the same issues post work. Do TB's wear out? This car has not cost me much during it's life, I have no issues on spending the $290...but don't want to throw that cash away if not needed. AND....does the car need to be re-calibrated after this cleaning or new unit? I don't have VIDA.

Go to sponsor Xemodex's website. They have information on installing their replacement throttle body. That may help.
Throttle bodies do wear out. What mileage has the car covered?

I cleaned my TB three times before deciding it was finally, actually, dead.
I got a cheap low milage used one from LKQ for about ~$100.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

Rock Auto has them. Difference with Xemodex is the warranty. Mind you, that is for purchaser only of the unit only, not for the lifetime of the part.

I replaced the ETM on my 2007 XC70 at 130k miles. The PVC oil was accumulating within the tephlon gears inside the ETM causing the butterfly valve to close slowly which led to a lean A/F ratio. I replaced it with a Bosch OEM and have had no issues since. The ECM will calibrate a new ETM so no programming is needed.
With sythetic oil being thinner than conventional oil I forsee the sythetic oil seeped it's way within those gears. If the PVC system fed straight to the plenum this never would of happened. I'm searching for a used plenum so I can feed the PVC oil directly into it with a tap & die.
