PCV hose part # 1271771 - NLA -Options?

My brother wants to buy a PCV kit for his 1997 850 NA SE automatic trans sedan.

He is looking at this kit and asked me for an opinion on the contents. Their are a couple of parts from companies that I would consider just ok that I might consider to use. I was bitten many years ago my a kit from IPD that used a URO hose in their PCV kit. That failed in less than 500 miles, the hose split. They had multiple customers that his also happened to. They replaced the part with an OE one, but I still had to buy another intake gasket and do the work again.

The 2 hoses I am concerned about are the same URO on from the side of the catch can into the middle of the block, plus the Rein branded hose from the top of the can to the cylinder head.

This part is now NLA from Volvo. When I look on line this seems to be the only option available. Only Skandix sells their own branded part but no supplier mentioned. Cost of shipping from Germany to US is ridiculous and multiple times the cost of the part. Their is another Dutch company that lists their 'own' brand but the last part I bought from them was PPS which I avoid due to past quality issues.

Is there any other options out there or has anyone had success with this URO part?

The other hose from the catch can to the head is a Rein. Again I don't know their product quality on this hose, but I have had issues with aftermarket brands with the hoses splitting and going brick hard in months to the point where they leak at the top between the hose and the head. The Volvo part is not available. but is available from GCP.se.

I just noticed there are 2 other parts made my PPS in the kit. The flame trap kit and the dip-stick seal. Again would you use those?

Any guidance on these parts would be appreciated.

Oh, I do have an OE Volvo hose # 1271771 in my stash. It has been there so long sealed in a bag it has gone grey like the picture of the URO one. He would be welcome to have it but I am not sure how long it would last.

Feel that oem one and if it still nice and pliable go ahead and use it!

Please make measurements of ID on both ends and the curvature so we can make our own, too.

Can't help with the 1271771.

As far as the catch can to head hose, that kit seems to have two of those. Volvo 1271654, and Rein ABV0186 which substitutes for Volvo 9146757. The 850 parts catalog shows 9146757 for the '92-'94 N/A B5254S, '95-'97 N/A B5254S manual, and all N/A B5252S. It shows 1271654 for the '94 turbo, '95-'97 N/A B5254S automatic and '95-'97 turbo. (Some of the latter are 9146758 in the parts catalog, but that was superseded by 1271654.) It looks like 1271654 has a longer jog at the catch can end to get past an obstruction on the intake manifold.

This post seems to show an engine with 9146757 in the first picture, and one with 1271654 in the second: viewtopic.php?p=589142#p589142

That thread also has a post that says that for some cars, either one will work.

So maybe you can use the OE Volvo catch can to head hose???

I think Volvo did the Swedish shuffle on part numbers but still make one that fits

This is where I am having a problem. As the car has a late engine number for an 850 (>900000) it is almost a first year S70.

According to the Volvo database the part # 1271771 is the correct part number. However, I found I still have pictures from working on the car 10 years ago. One of the photos is of the PCV tank. I thikn that this may be why I have that NOS hose as this is the one fitted to the car. Now that is not to say that is what I fitted as I have a bunch of pictures of the one Abscate has linked at FCPEuro:

Above is the PCV assembly, and if you enlarge the top of the tank, I believe I see the part # 1271650

I have asked my brother to see if he can manage to take a photo of the hose for me.

Deep dive.

There are two part numbers for the Pcv breather box and one sits a bit higher than the other. The side connecting rubber piece has a little offset for this box vs the original box which is a simple 90 degree turn

I have one of each box, and will take another look at them today. I looked at them a couple of days ago for comparison. They look identical with the exception the older one has an extra external 'baffle/protection' plate on the outside face away from the engine. Otherwise, they looked identical including the side hole. I will take some pictures so I can share and confirm if what you have found is correct. It looks like the box I removed under magnification on the photo I took, looks like the older oil trap with the part number faintly visible on the top.

So, I have attached some pictures below. First is comparing the side exit hole in the oil catch can between older and newer cans. Both seem identical to me. Only difference is that the newer variant (1271988) has a plastic shield on it's front over the older variant (1271650).

Looking at Volvo websites, there is also another variant (9146756). This looks like the older version without the shield on the front. This is listed for 850 NA engines only. 1271988 is listed for Turbo 850's and All V/S/C70's. I can not think of any differences as to why they are different, or even need to be different.
