1988 volvo 760 turbo intermitant fuel guage problem

My 1988 volvo 760 turbo has an intermittent fuel gauge problem. seems when you drive the car for about an hour it kicks in and if it goes out you can tap on the dash and it kicks back in .... i have checked the connections from under the dash and all seems ok !!! has anyone had this problem and do they know an easy fix to the problem ?

I have a 1990 760 and have the same problem, sometimes when you turn the ignition on the gauge works and most of the time it doesn't.

I think I have a wiring problem to find, my headlights work sometimes and sometimes not - I have gone through and cleaned all my spade lugs behind the headlight buckets and the one behind the hood release panel.

I need to find a shop manual that shows all the wiring in the car, I have a Chilton manual, however, it's useless, it shows circuitry but not the actual wiring harness.

Check your ignition switch.
