Door module problems?

Post by plaganir »

Hi,

I'm glad if found this forum as it seems like I might find a solution to my problem:

This winter, I have found my 2001 V70 with the battery dead on a few of occasions. After a short investigation, here's what's happening.

I turned the engine off and 30 seconds later, a relay "click" once under the dash near the steering wheel and then, a relay (or something that sounds like one) starts clicking simultaneously in each front door. The clicking goes on endlessly, every second, until the battery dies!

I replaced the battery ( the dealer suggested to!) and it didn't fix anything but 195$ out of my bank account.

One thing I noticed is that sometimes, the lock button on either front door won't lock the doors.

Any hint?

thanks in advance.

You may have found the solution. The relay by the steering column should be pulled and changed. The door switches are just switches.

Hey, thanks!

I'll check this tonight or tomorrow.

But where is the ticking noise coming from? I thought there might be a relay in the door module itself or something?

I believe there is for the auto up/down function (pushing the up on the window lever makes the window go all the way down and pushing down until it clicks makes it go all the way down without holding it).

What is the best way of troubleshooting this?

Where do I start to ensure I won't spend hours and 1000s$

Thank you

Pull the fuse to give you a working car thats not draining your battery. The door panel unit may be the problem. A stuck contact in one of the switches. Try a spray cleaner for electrical contacts INSIDE the switch.

Here is what I found.

If I pull either the left or right door module fuse (no 34 and 35), the ticking continues. However, If I pull the door modules fuse (no 27) the ticking stops.

I think this is a program issue.

I tried resting the door modules and it won't work.

I'm shoping for an OBD2 unit to get the codes.

Patrick,
Unless you spend over a grand an OBD-II code reader won't help you. The reader you want has to be specific for Volvo and very few out there that will do that. Best bet is to keep trouble shooting like you are now or take it to the dealer for a code read unless you don't mind paying the big bucks for a reader.

I getting closer I think!

I finished installing Vadis on my computer and was reading through the design of the 2001 V70. It seems like after approximately 25 seconds after the keys have been removed, the deadlocks turns on...It seems like my car is mixed up. Approximately 25 second after the car is standing still, the door modules strart clicking endlessly.

I'm starting to think there might be a contact problem with one of the door locks.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Thank in advance.

Patrick
