1999 S80 engine hose?

If you are looking at the engine from the front, there is a box mounted to the inner fender on the left side with a hose that comes out the front and goes down somewhere. There are no labels on the box, and on my car the hose is missing. Does anyone know what this box is and where the hose goes? Is it important to have the hose?

Sounds like the cooling hose for the ECU (car's computer), but without a picture I can't verify. Evidently on some '99's there was never one there. If you your black box has a hole for it but no hose, then you probably lost it along the way and should have one.
