Fuel/Air mixture to rich?
Fuel/Air mixture to rich?
I recently purchased a 1997 850 T5. Kilometers are fairly low, appx 137500, and veh works extremly well over all. The one thing that I have noticed is that at times there is some sooty looking exhaust. It reminds me of some of the other non fuel injected vehs I have owned when the fuel/air mixture was to rich. Could that be the problem I am experiencing with this veh? If so, how can I correct it, and if not what other possible problems should I be looking for? If anyone can provide advice/assistance, it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

The computer should control the air fule ratio. Has there been any performance modifications that you are aware of? Have you checked to see if there are any codes stored in the OBDII?
I have a NA 20-valve and it runs a little on the rich side normally. I have 105600 miles (170000KM) and had a few P102 MAF error codes that are self inflicted with a K&N air filter.
Good Luck
