How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Moderate 850 ECU

Post by code-man850 »

I have a 96 855 stock excecept for IPD sway bars. I was looking into getting a chip but didnt want to push the hp too much since the motor has 140k. Would it be fine to do just the chip or would exhust and intake be needed as well. Just looking for a good moderate ECU but not one of the gnarliest.

I only have the moderate boost with no downpipe or exhaust modifications. In the end I also have the IPD sway bars- so you'll have a similar setup as me. Get a hold of IPD and ask for Lucky. He will help you get the most out of what you want. I now have 167K miles on my S70 and it flies! Oh, make sure to do Stage-0 before chipping or making any performance modifications (no vacuum leaks or engine leaks, good 02 sensors, etc...in other words, at least no engine or transmission codes because if you don't do this before chipping your ECU, all problems WILL show up). Good luck!

As a disclaimer, you don't say if your car has a turbo or not. If it doesn't, forget all that I said above- chipping your ECU won't help you at all. You're better off selling a non-turbo 850 and buying one with a turbo, even if it's a low pressure turbo (later model 850 GLT).

It is the turbo (not the reg. or GLT) It has had a stage 0 done about 5k miles ago. Thanks. I'll be talkin to lucky.

For what it seems like you want to do, with what you have,
check into InMotion Tuning USA.
http://www.inmotionusa.com/
I'm VERY happy with my results.
I worked with James.
ALOT cheaper than ipd, too.

There are many roads that lead to mod heaven!
Just make sure they don't boost you up to much to the point that detonation becomes an issue.

So i just got done talking about a moderate ECU tune. He said with 91 octane (highest at pump in California) I could boost 15psi for a 270HP output. Exactly the numbers i was looking for. And for only $220

Wow, not bad. That's with no exhaust/downpipe mods? Just the chip?

That's about what my IPD tune does but it will spike to 17psi or so under full boost.

That's with no other mods. Except I am deffinately doin a drop in K&N, silicone intercooler piping elbows coil and wires, and I heard down pipes are easy to make if you have fabing experience. Well I do. Can anyone give me advice on how to construct one or its measurments?
